Meet Matt

Matt Sherman, CPA

Matt Sherman is a Certified Public Accountant and the CPA behind Beacon Tax & Advisory. He works with households and businesses across Chapel Hill, Durham, Raleigh, and the wider Research Triangle.

Matt started Beacon because he saw how often people felt rushed, unheard, or handed off when it came to their taxes. Clients would meet a partner once, then deal with whoever happened to be assigned that season. Questions went unanswered until after the deadline, and planning was an afterthought.

Beacon works differently. Every engagement has a CPA's direct involvement, from the first call through the final review. Clients get straight answers, proactive ideas, and a steady point of contact who already knows their history the next time a question comes up.

Outside of tax season, Matt focuses on the planning conversations that make the next tax season easier: projections, timing decisions, and coordinating with clients' financial advisors and attorneys.

What we stand for

The principles behind every engagement.

Clarity

Plain-English explanations of what we did, why, and what it means for you. No jargon walls.

Responsiveness

Questions get real answers from someone who knows your file, not a ticket number.

Foresight

We look ahead to next year while there is still time to act, not only back at last year.

Discretion

Your financial life is personal. Documents are exchanged securely and handled with care.

A connected approach

Part of your financial team.

Good tax advice doesn't happen in isolation. Beacon works alongside the other professionals in your life so every decision is made with the full picture in view.
